The
overall objective of the project “Integrated Management of Oasis Ecosystems in North Niger” is to “Contribute to improving knowledge on the dynamics of the functioning and
management of natural resources of oasis and arid ecosystems in Northern Niger in order to
maintain and improve the services of oasis ecosystems in order to promote the resilience of resident communities”.
This project is expected to, among other things, the restoration of
40,000 ha of silvopastoral land, the recovery of 19,000 ha of agricultural land and the
planting of 1000 ha.
The operational phase of the project was approved by the GEF in February 2020, for an
amount of 4,644,522 US dollars. Two orders, one concerning the establishment of the steering committee
and the other the creation of the Project Management Unit, which allowed the project to
carry out the start-up activities.
