ADVOCACY FOR THE PROMOTION OF SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION PATTERNS (MCPD) IN NIGER

The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (
Earth Summit, Rio de Janeiro, 1992) was marked in particular by the adoption of three conventions
on: biological
diversity,
climate change,
and the fight against desertification.
In 2012, celebrating the two decades of the Earth Summit (Rio+20), the world's top leaders recognized and reiterated that current consumption and production patterns are unsustainable and therefore unsustainable. How could it be otherwise, by giving priority to the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment's vision of the concept of sustainable consumption and production, which it defines as “... the use of services and products that meet essential needs and that contribute to improving the quality of life while minimizing the quantities of natural resources and toxic materials used, as well as the quantities of waste and pollutants released throughout the life cycle of the service or product of So that the needs of future generations can be satisfied” (Norwegian Ministry of the Environment 1994).

This advocacy document first presents the objectives, then it targets the main consumer groups to be influenced, then it lists allies and tools and focuses on messages addressed to the main actors in the consumer and producer chain. Finally, it identifies instruments for promoting MCPDs and stakeholders.
