This document is a guide to raise awareness about biological diversity and the impacts of climate change on it. It is part of the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity in its component of raising public awareness on the importance of biological diversity for the well-being of populations in a context of food insecurity and climate change.
The development of this guide is motivated by the results of a survey conducted among local communities in Niger on their perception of biological diversity to determine their vision (positive or negative) towards it. It recalls its benefits and the threats to which it is subject, especially those related to the effects of climate change.
Four main parts make up this guide:
✓ Part I: the different concepts of biological diversity;
✓ Part II: the importance of biological diversity;
✓ Part III: the impacts of climate change on biological diversity;
✓ Part IV: good practices to avoid the loss of biological diversity.
