EVALUATION OF FLORA AND VEGETATION IN SOME TREATED AND UNTREATED SITES IN THE TAHOUA, MARADI AND TILLABERI REGIONS

A study on the evaluation of flora and vegetation on treated and untreated sites was conducted in 16 village areas in the regions of Maradi, Tahoua and Tillabérie. Of these sites, 10 were studied extensively, 2 with a light study and 4 as a control. The objective of this study was to determine the current state of vegetation and flora in terms of diversity and biomass in order to identify quantitative and qualitative aspects that could be translated into monetary terms to verify the impacts of investments/interventions. An inventory of vegetation was made during the rainy season according to the radial
transects in the various sites. This inventory was combined with population surveys in order to collect information on the evolution of vegetation. The results show that floristic diversity is more appreciable in sites where both woody and herbaceous species are involved; tillage and the maintenance of natural regeneration are favorable to the restoration of woody biological diversity. The number of discharges varies but exceeds 100 in all sites, substrate types and interventions. The number of usable stems depends on a certain number of factors, namely maintenance, cutting monitoring, the type of intervention and the ecological zone in question. The usable volume is a function of the strong regeneration and number of exploitable stems and the sites with large areas spared in the fields. In general, it appears that vegetation is improving in all sites. People use wood and non-wood products to meet their needs. Firewood and service wood is no longer a concern in the majority of sites. Aerial fodder from
woody trees complements herbaceous fodder; In all sites, trees are a significant source of income for populations. The various interventions of the projects have contributed to the improvement of
vegetation. Information that could allow the quantification of the existing potential and its translation into monetary terms has been obtained. This study made it possible to set up a reference database from this period for the various sites.
