Since 2015, Abdou Moumouni University has been involved in a process of structuring research within it. This dynamic has resulted in the creation of laboratories and research teams attached to three doctoral schools.

These schools became faculties administered by Deans and Faculty Councils under the authority of the Rector. In August 1992, the University of Niamey became Université Abdou Moumouni de Niamey in tribute to one of its former Rectors, Professor Abdou Moumouni Dioffo.
