A Sahelian country, Niger covers an area of 1,267,000 km² and is located between the longitudes 0° 16' and 16° East, and the latitudes 11°1' and 23°17'. Its population is estimated at 14.72 million with a growth rate of 3.3% per year and a life expectancy of 57.2 years (INS, 2009). This population derives most of its basic needs from natural resources through agriculture, livestock, forestry, fishing and aquaculture.
Nowadays, these resources are facing continuous degradation due in particular to climatic hazards, human pressure and the invasion of invasive plants. The economic and environmental impacts of these invasions are in the order of billions of dollars each year, leading to renewed interest in these plants.
Indeed, invasive alien species (IAS) was a key topic on the agenda of discussion forums during the Seventh Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) which took place in February 2004, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
